Prof. Rowold is a tenured professor in the Fashion Design + Culture group, curator of the Sage Collection. She received her undergraduate degree from Albright College and masterís from Miami University, then joined our faculty in 1979 after earning her doctorate in clothing and textiles from Purdue University.
Prof. Rowold is among the worldís leading experts in the social and aesthetic history of Western fashion, and has written dozens of papers and publications on various fashion and textile issues, including the 2002 exhibition and design retrospective: Bill Blass: An American Designer. As curator of the Sage Collection, she is responsible for overseeing exhibitions, development activities and sharing her expertise with audiences worldwide on various topics related to clothing collection management and maintenance.
Prof. Rowold teaches a variety of introductory and advanced-level undergraduate courses in fashion design and theory, and the history of dress, and the history of fashion. In her tenure at IU, she has sponsored and directed nearly 100 masterís and bachelorís students with their theses and individualized major programs.
